One Does Not Simply Become A Rebellious Prince

Well, Belphegor, the notoriously ruthless and rebellious North Prince, is a jerk.
Even calling him that is a big understatement, then again, he was the only one dared to openly defy Lucifer, his father, which was a record, since his dad was the eternal symbol of bigheadedness - maybe that's why they say apple doesn't fall far from the tree, except maybe into Eve's hands, who knew?

Long story short, Belphegor started all that separation-from-the-flock thing, and it wasn't because of daddy issues - i.e dad doesn't love me or pay attention to me - and of course not for any self-righteousness either - hello, Prince of Hell here - rather, he began it all when he found out the truth about Lucifer's ultimate weapon, the Rygavon.

That weapon which housed the Dark Light wasn't truly his, and by wielding it, he'd mark all unholy with bull's eye on their backs - add that with his Echelons went out their way and pit the soldiers against each other, the soldiers might as well be exterminated by his own hands.

That was the last straw to Belphegor, and after every other thing his father had done, that said a lot.

Knowing this, Belphegor went to Vassago, another Prince of Hell who resided in the Shadow Realm -  a realm that resembled much like the in-between, or Nether Realm. Vassago, who'd been a long-time friend to Belphegor, and had more allegiance to him than to his father, immediately came to his side. Not long afterwards, so did a few other Royals of Hell who had never been so keen with Lucifer but had been keeping their heads down since there had been no real reasons to invite the Angel of Death to their halls in their respective castles.

Among those who'd secretly switched allegiance were two most powerful members of the Echelons of Hell, Bynethar and Xamian. Their reason for switching their allegiance was a lot more personal than the other royals.

Her name was Laviett. She was Bynethar's mate and Xamian's sister who died brutally at the hands of Archangels. Problem was, the holy soldiers may have been the ones who killed her, but those responsible for trapping her so she'd be slaughtered were the other Echelon members led by Kathiera, who acted under Lucifer's orders.

The reason was simple: she let curiosity get the best of her when she learned of a few soldiers that'd been put in death row for unclear reasons, and started asking very wrong questions.

Anyhow, when Belphegor's daring announcement of his separation, Lucifer was evidently not happy, of course. Imagine what kind of a slap that was for the Unholy King when he heard that he'd been 'disowned' by his successor - Vassago, and someone else among their comrades that I won't name now, did remind Belphegor that disowning could only be happened the other way around, but the North Prince shrugged that off.

A war soon erupted between them, and it only stopped after several royals stepped in, and convinced Lucifer to let Belphegor be as the royals' time to withdraw into exile and not to interfere with the affairs of the main hierarchy would soon be coming, and being at war with his own son wouldn't bode well in the eyes of the Legions. At that time, Vassago and the few comrades on theirs pretended to be on Lucifer's side so they could always gather information on him. After that, centuries and millennia passed by, both Lucifer and Belphegor never stepped foot in each other's territories, and nothing that was worth recording occurred.

Until the day Ezryan, the 13th Hieldhar, dared to trespass into his region.

Belphegor had every intention to kill the Commander who just got promoted at the time, for his impudence. However, something in Ezryan somehow reminded him of Darkan, the 9th Hieldhar who got killed because of him consorting the angel Mariel - a fact that not many knew, even fewer who knew that Belphegor and his royal cohorts were protecting them both. Belphegor couldn't even be more sure that Ezryan did remind him of the late Hieldhar when he brought Yverna and he saw how Ezryan was towards her, even though Yverna didn't show anything that said she was also into Ezryan that way, but her loyalty to the Commander was without question.

When Belphegor learned of the danger lurking around them both, he felt like protecting them would be his shot to redeem his failure at protecting Darkan and Mariel - something he'd do his damnedest to deny, which he did when Vassago and the others asked him about it, but they didn't pay attention to his denial anyway.

After Cain declared the prophecy, Belphegor swore that he'd made sure Ezryan and the others would survive the ordeal, even though it would mean facing off against his father, and be involved in the new age war thousands of years later, a war that shouldn't have been his problem had he not bothered himself with Ezryan and the rest of his comrades who were at the center of Cain's prophecy.

And that was what made Ezryan, Vassago and the rest of their companions rest their loyalty upon the North Prince.
